Dr B Venkatraman, Director, IGCAR said that Swachh Bharat Mission will not only cover cleanliness and sanitation but also drinking water, solar energy, solid liquid waste management and recovery of useful materials from e-waste. Swachh Bharat Cell, IGCAR organized a tree planting program at Anupuram Township on Sunday. Venkatraman, who presided over the event, said that behavioral changes should be brought about in communities to practice cleanliness to achieve sustainable development.
He said that there is an idea to bring changes. Ministries and departments are participating in cleanliness related activities and offices are observing Swachhta Pakhwada for a fortnight to bring intense focus on improving the cleanliness of the environment. The Department of Atomic Energy is organizing Swachhta Pakhwada celebrations from February 16 to February 29, 2024. A collection of books has been arranged. The program was coordinated by Shri N Suresh Associate Director CEG, Mrs. ) 5, AOIII, IGCAR, other senior officers of IGCAR. DAE schools, students from Central Vidyalayas, around 50 employees. CISF & Nuclear Employees Sports & Cultural Organization (NESCO) participated in this activity from IGCAR. The collected 400 kg of e-waste was handed over to a designated vendor specializing in disposal of e-waste in an environment-friendly manner. 350 books collected by poor people.
350 books were handed over to NESCO for distribution to poor people, schools and libraries. IGCAR Director planted the first sapling for this program. On this occasion, more than 100 guava, amla, guava, sapota and flower plants were handed over to the students and teachers for planting in AECS 3 school in Anupuram
Director IGCAR will list the biological name of the tree along with the name of the student who planted it for records and reference. Furthermore, each student will be photographed with the tree they planted and will retain this image to record progress over the years. To create awareness about cleanliness, technological intervention to reduce waste generation & make cleanliness a habit, IGCAR employees are playing street games.

Programs such as removal of obsolete items and deletion of old records have been undertaken.
To promote the concept of upcycling waste materials into valuable resources, environmental sustainability and economic empowerment, a craft making competition is being conducted apart from other competitions such as poster, essay & slogan writing for employees. Prizes will be distributed to the winners of the competition.
